One To One Poetry Tuition
For the first time The Writing School are offering 1-2-1 tuition with our expert tutors.
Is This Suitable For Me?
These courses are suitable for beginners and experienced poets alike.
How Does It Work?
- Your work will be submitted to the course tutor for initial assessment.
- You will be emailed a short written report on your poetry.
- Then you will enjoy a one-hour Zoom discussion about your poems, using the written report as guide to the discussion.
What Can I Send?
You can send a maximum of 175 lines of poetry for assessment.
This may take the form of:
- Several short poems.
- 4 poems of approx 40-45 lines.
- A single long poem of 175 lines or fewer.
- An extract or extracts from a longer poetic work.
Who Is My Tutor?
Jonathan Edwards’ first collection, My Family and Other Superheroes (Seren, 2014), received the Costa Poetry Award and the Wales Book of the Year People’s Choice Award. His second collection, Gen (Seren, 2018), also received the Wales Book of the Year People’s Choice Award. His poem about Newport Bridge was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best Single Poem 2019, and he has received prizes in the Ledbury Festival International Poetry Competition, the Oxford Brookes International Poetry Competition and the Cardiff International Poetry Competition. He has read his poems on BBC radio and television and at festivals around the world, recorded them for the Poetry Archive and led workshops in schools, universities and prisons. He lives in Crosskeys, South Wales.
Dates and Costs
When?
Tutorials will take place online. Dates and times to be agreed at the convenience of tutor and student.
What Are The Costs?
One to one tuition is £125 per session.
This pays for:
- One hour for the tutor to read, consider and respond in writing about your poems.
- A one hour Zoom discussion about your poetry.
